Apple has finally upgraded the 24-inch iMac with the newly announced M3 chip, following the M1-powered iMac that was launched in 2021. The 24-inch iMac with M3 chip was unveiled during Apple's Scary Fast event on Tuesday. It features the same design as the 2021 iMac model with an M1 chip, that was launched three years ago. The upgraded iMac M3 model comes with an 8-core CPU and up to a 10-core GPU. It is claimed to offer up to two times better performance than the M1-based iMac while also being more efficient.

24-inch iMac M3 price in India, availability

The new 24-inch iMac with an M3 chip starts at Rs. 1,34,900. This model comes with an 8-core CPU, 8-core GPU, 8GB of memory, a 256GB SSD storage, and two Thunderbolt ports. Apple includes the Magic Keyboard and Magic Mouse with the 24-inch iMac. It is available in green, pink, blue, and silver colour options.

On the other hand, the 24-inch iMac with M3 variant with the 10-core GPU starts at Rs. 1,54,900 or Rs. 1,44,900 for education. It comes with the same configuration — an 8-core CPU, 8GB of RAM, a 256GB SSD, two Thunderbolt ports, Gigabit Ethernet, and two USB 3 ports. This is bundled with a Magic Keyboard with Touch ID and Magic Mouse. It is available in Blue, Green, Orange, Pink, Purple, Silver, and Yellow colour options.

As for availability, the new 24-inch iMac with M3 is already up for pre-order on the Apple website. It will go on sale via the website, Apple Store, and Apple authorised resellers starting November 7.

24-inch iMac M3 specifications, features

While the new 24-inch iMac with M3 chip looks similar to the older model, it does offer some performance improvements. The M3 chip with 8-core CPU and up to 10-core GPU with support for up to 24GB unified RAM is claimed to be twice as faster as the M1 chip, and is based on the Apple iPhone 15 Pro's A17 Pro chip.

Apple's new M3 chip is manufactured using a 3nm process, which also makes it more efficient than the M1 chip that powered its predecessor. In the graphics department, the chip offers hardware-accelerating mesh shading with support for ray tracing on the iMac. There's also a 16-core Neural Engine that enables faster machine learning.

The all-in-one 24-inch iMac with M3 comes with a 24-inch Retina Display that offers 4.5K resolution and 500 nits of peak brightness. It now comes with Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, up to four USB Type-C ports, two Thunderbolt ports, and Gigabit Ethernet support. There's also a 1080p FaceTime camera and a six-speaker setup that offers support for Spatial Audio and Dolby Atmos. It runs the new macOS Sonoma out-of-the-box.

India vs England World Cup 2023 match is scheduled to take place on Sunday, October 29, at Ekana Sports City stadium, Lucknow. The host team has been faring well in the tournament so far, with 5 wins in all the matches it has played. With 10 points, India sits second in the points table for the World Cup 2023. It is only behind South Africa, who moved to first position after a massive win against Pakistan. On the other hand, the defending champions will find it hard even to make it to the semi-finals at this stage. England sits at the last position in the points table currently, with only one win in its account so far.

India is suffering a loss as Hardik Pandya is recovering from his injury. While he was expected to join the team for Lucknow's game, his ligament tear may take longer to heal, and we might miss him for the next two games. Suryakumar Yadav replaced Pandya in the previous match against New Zealand. However, he failed to woo fans with his performance. On the other hand, Mohammad Shami took 5 wickets in the same match and became the Player of the Match. For the next clash, BCCI may take a chance with R Ashwin to fill Pandya's position. Another awaiting feat is Virat Kohli's 49th century, making him the cricketer with most ODI centuries.

England, the champions of World Cup 2019, has been finding it hard to score a win. In the five matches it has played so far, England has managed to claim a victory only once. While captain Jos Buttler has repeatedly defended his team, there have been questions from all ends. Their performance has made it difficult to qualify for the semi-finals. It will be interesting to see if England manages to reclaim their lost glory against India.

The match will begin at 2 pm IST, and the toss will take place 30 minutes before the scheduled time, at 1:30 pm IST.

India vs England World Cup 2023 squad

India: Rohit Sharma (c), Hardik Pandya (vc), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Ishan Kishan, Surya Kumar Yadav

England: Jos Buttler (c), Moeen Ali, Gus Atkinson, Jonny Bairstow, Harry Brook, Brydon Carse, Sam Curran, Liam Livingstone, Dawid Malan, Adil Rashid, Joe Root, Ben Stokes, David Willey, Mark Wood, Chris Woakes

Samsung Galaxy S24 series is likely to offer satellite communication support, according to details reportedly shared by a company executive. According to a Sisa Journal-E report (translated from Korean), Samsung Electronics System LSI Business Head Yong-In Park stated during a recent presentation that the South Korean tech conglomerate was preparing to offer support for satellite communication on its smartphones next year. With the Samsung Galaxy S24 series of smartphones expected to debut in Q1 2024, these handsets are likely to be the first to support the feature.

According to the report, the Samsung executive said that the company has already made preparations to support smartphone communications using a satellite. Yong-In Park, who made the announcement at the 2023 Semiconductor Expo, did not specify a timeline for the functionality to be enabled, or reveal which phones would support the feature.

It is worth noting that Apple announced support for non-terrestrial networks (NTN) communication via its Emergency SOS satellite feature with the iPhone 14 series of smartphones in 2022, and the company's latest phones — including the iPhone 15 Pro Max — also support the feature. Earlier this year, Qualcomm announced Snapdragon Satellite support on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip, but the feature was not enabled on the Samsung Galaxy S23 series of smartphones.

On the other hand, Samsung's own Exynos 5300 modem that features on its Exynos 2400 mobile processor as well as Google's Tensor G2 (Pixel 7) and Tensor G3 (Pixel 8) chips, also supports NTN connectivity. Samsung is yet to reveal whether it will enable support for satellite communication on its Exynos 2400 chip — expected to power the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+ — or the recently unveiled Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip that is tipped to power the top-of-the-line Galaxy S23 Ultra handset.

It's also unclear whether Samsung's Galaxy S23 series of smartphones — comprising the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, and Galaxy S23 Ultra — as well as the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Galaxy Z Fold 5 will offer support for emergency satellite connectivity. TM Roh, president and head of Samsung's mobile experience business division, previously stated that satellite functionality was still quite restricted on smartphones and that it was too soon to implement the feature on Samsung handsets.

Apple is all set to host its next showcase at the end of this month, where it is expected to unveil new iMac and MacBook models. Invites have already been sent out for the ‘Scary Fast' event, scheduled to take place on October 30 at 5 pm PT (5.30 am IST on October 31). Ahead of the event, an alleged MacBook Pro box packaging image has leaked online. The leak shows a traditional Apple packaging, a white-coloured box with the image of a MacBook Pro on top.

The rare Apple leak appeared first on the Chinese micro-blogging website Weibo and was later shared by tipster ShrimpApplePro (@VNchocoTaco) on X on Wednesday. While the leak contains no details, it shows a silver-coloured unreleased MacBook Pro on the box with a new wallpaper on its display.

Apple, as usual, has not released any details about its rumoured lineup of Macs, so it would be best to take this leak with a pinch of salt. The Cupertino, California-based company is widely expected to debut a new 24-inch iMac at its ‘Scary Fast' event. A day before Apple's event announcement, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reported that the company was gearing up to launch the long-awaited 24-inch iMac refresh around the end of October. The last iMac was launched at Apple's ‘Spring Loaded' event in 2021.

The company could also debut its much-awaited M3 chip on its lineup of Mac models, expected to be revealed at the event. According to Bloomberg, at the event, Apple could debut 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models, possibly powered by M3 Pro and M3 Max chips.

Earlier this week, Bloomberg's Gurman also reported that Apple retail stores were in short supply of the existing iMac and 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models, hinting at new releases arriving soon. He also said that a larger Pro version of the iMac will come in late 2024 or 2025. TF Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, too, had claimed that a higher-end iMac with a 32-inch mini-LED display would debut in 2025.

Apple is also working on refreshing its iPad lineup; however, don't expect them to show up at the ‘Scary Fast' event, which is expected to focus on Macs. The company is reportedly working on refreshes for iPad Air, the entry-level iPad, and iPad mini, which could launch around March 2024. The upcoming event will be livestreamed on Apple's YouTube channel, website and Apple TV+.

Is the new expensive 10th-generation iPad worth buying instead of its predecessor? We discuss this on Orbital, the Gadgets 360 podcast. Orbital is available on Spotify, Gaana, JioSaavn, Google Podcasts, Apple Podcasts, Amazon Music and wherever you get your podcasts.

Qualcomm today announced its new Snapdragon X Elite platform at its Snapdragon Summit 2023 in Maui, Hawaii, United States. The company had announced the Snapdragon X branding earlier this month. The Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite platform features the company's Oryon CPU and promises a performance boost of up to two times versus its closest competitors. So far, Qualcomm has only shared some reference designs and benchmarks, but we're expecting to see some live benchmarks over the coming days.

Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite chip is built on a 4nm process, with 12 high-performance cores clocked at 3.8GHz and up to 136GB/s memory bandwidth. The chipmaker showed off some impressive numbers during the keynote, including 50 percent "faster peak multi-threaded performance" when compared to Apple Silicon M2, and up to twice the CPU performance compared to Intel Core i7-13800H. However, it's worth mentioning here that the Snapdragon X Elite has 50 percent more cores compared to Apple's M2 chip.

Oryon, Qualcomm's latest Arm CPU core is designed by Nuvia, the company that it acquired back in 2021. Snapdragon X Elite SoC is packed with 12 Oryon cores. These are split into three parts with four cores each. Snapdragon X Elite seems like a massive jump in improvement considering the company's older 8XC chips. For a laptop, Snapdragon X Elite SoC looks like a powerful chip, but we'll have to wait for a complete hands-on and live benchmarks.

On the graphics front, Qualcomm claims its latest chipset offers up to twice the performance compared to an Intel Core i7-13800H with 74 percent less power consumption.

Qualcomm remains deeply focussed on adding an AI element into its latest chips. The Snapdragon X Elite is capable of running generative AI models with more than 13 billion parameters on the device itself. The company's latest premium mobile chipset, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, is also packed with on-device generative AI features.

During the day 1 keynote, Qualcomm announced several key partners including Lenovo that are on board to ship devices packed with its latest chips. You can expect PCs powered by Snapdragon X Elite to start shipping from the middle of 2024.

Qualcomm Seamless announced

Another interesting announcement during the keynote was Qualcomm Seamless. Dubbed as a 'cross-platform' technology that can enable devices across multiple platforms to talk to each other so users can have a seamless experience, Seamless will work on Android, Windows, and Snapdragon-based devices. Qualcomm is working with Microsoft, Google, Dell, Lenovo, and other partners to bring its Seamless technology to more devices. Use cases could revolve around switching wireless earphones between multiple sources, moving files among different devices, and so on.

Snapdragon Seamless comes built-in on the company's new Snapdragon X Elite and Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 platforms. Qualcomm partners such as Xiaomi, Lenovo, Microsoft, and others are expected to roll out support for the technology in their upcoming products.
